1. Lift it in:
The most common way is to fold the Eloflex and then lift it into the car. Most users come up with their own favorite way of doing it, partly because the height of the luggage compartment differs, and partly because of their own physical capabilities. Below, we present two methods that most people use because it puts the least stress on the back.
Method 1.
This method is the best and most convenient if you are within normal height range. You get a good grip of the front wheel tubes and use the soft part of the chair against the body to lift it.
Fold your Eloflex and place it with the wheels against the car’s luggage compartment.
Bend over the chair and grab the curved front wheel tubes with both hands.
Bend your knees and lean back. Use your leg muscles as you lift the Eloflex onto the edge of the luggage compartment.
Place the rear wheels on the car’s bumper or on the edge of the luggage compartment.
Tilt the chair forward into the boot of the car.
Method 2.
A lower grip for a shorter person. In this way you can use the wheels and roll the chair into the luggage when you lift it onto the bumper.
Disconnect your Eloflex. Then fold it and place it with its back against the car’s luggage compartment.
Bend over the chair and grab the armrests on each side.
Bend your knees and lean back. Use your leg muscles as you lift up the Eloflex and place the rear wheels on the car’s bumper or on the edge of the luggage compartment.
From here you can roll the chair into the luggage compartment.
Change grip. Grab the front wheel attachments and then roll your Eloflex into the boot via the rear wheels.
2. Leverage it:
Perhaps the best way to load an Eloflex into the car is to leverage it. This way you don’t have to lift more than one third of the weight of the Eloflex. This method requires that you have a combi and that the distance between the edge of the luggage compartment and the ground is not more than 55cm. This method also depends on having an Eloflex with a locked anti-tip cap (which all newer models have).
Disconnect your Eloflex. Place it with the footrest against the bumper.
Grab the backrest and tilt the chair back steeply. Roll the chair forward on the anti-tipping wheels until the front wheels are inside the luggage compartment.
Then lift the chair up on its front wheels by lifting the backrest. You can now let the chair hang halfway into the luggage by resting the battery box against the car’s bumper.
Release the locking hook on your Eloflex and then fold it into the luggage by pushing forward on the backrest.
Change grip. Grab the anti-tip guard and push your Eloflex into the boot.
3. Using a ramp:
Using a ramp is a convenient way of loading the Eloflex into a car. This way is extra effective for those who can’t handle heavy lifting. You can even drive your Eloflex in folded position up the ramp using the chair’s motors.
There are many different types of ramps; long, short, wide and narrow… Choose the one that fits your car best. Below we present a solution that one of our users sent to us and that works very well for them.
Lay the ramp at the correct distance between the two sides.
Place the chair in front of the ramp with its back against the car. Make sure it isn’t decoupled. Again, check that the distance between the ramps matches the width between the rear wheels. Then fold your Eloflex.
Tilt the chair so that it stands on the rear wheels. You can now carefully back your Eloflex up the ramp using the joystick. Use the lowest speed and drive carefully.
Once you have reached the luggage compartment edge, you can turn off the joystick and push the chair the last bit.
The user in the picture had their ramp modified by being cut in the middle and a hinge mounted. It’s a good way to save space in the luggage compartment because you can fold ramp.
4. Using a crane:
An easy, but a little more expensive solution is to install a crane into the car’s luggage compartment and use it to lift your Eloflex into the car. This is the best solution for those who are in a wheelchair and who want to be able to bring their Eloflex into the car on their own. There are a plethora of different solutions and models on the market, but given the low weight of the Eloflex, a fairly simple crane is often enough. We suggest contacting your nearest car company for more information.
Fold your Eloflex and put it behind the car. Fold out the crane and secure chair according to the crane’s instructions.
Gently lift the chair up in the air.
When the chair is raised it can be lead gently into the car.
Some cranes have electric stearing, others are turned in manually.
Once inside the car, the chair should be lowered to the floor. However, the chair may still be attached to the crane for easy unloading.
